About the MLKPAC

Operated continuously since 1984, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center (MLK PAC) is Charlottesville’s premier theater for performances and community events. Located at Charlottesville High School, the 1276-seat theater is owned and operated by the Charlottesville City School Division. The Center serves as a venue for student performances, educational activities, commercial performances and other large group events. Shows from New York, Boston and as far away as China and Moscow have been hosted at the MLK PAC, including The Nutcracker ballet, Ray Charles, Hello Dolly, Bela Fleck, and other popular artists. - Not-for-profit rental rates are available. - Tickets for non-school event performances can be purchased through the sponsoring agency.

  • Outside organizations will pay $254 an hour, unless you are a nonprofit, in which case you will pay $162 an hour. Charlottesville City School events are not charged a rental fee.

  • We have general stage equipment for various performances, like risers, music stands, and sound shells. We also have an extensive lighting and sound board that can be programmed to your needs. If you have a question or concern about a specific need, please reach out to Virginia Coldren directly.

  • Reserving spaces outside of the MLK PAC can be arranged. If this is a need, please indicate that on your form.

  • The MLK PAC has its own marked entrance on the northwest side of Charlottesville High School.

  • MLK PAC has plentiful parking near the MLK PAC entrance and along the northern side of CHS.
