Charlottesville City Schools, home to 4,500 students in pre-K through Grade 12, is known for its top-tier academics; extraordinary fine arts; ground-breaking STEM and engineering programs; and strong sense of community. We also offer the best of curriculum in literacy, math, and social studies, including partnerships with the University of Virginia, and other local museums and historic sites.

Our division includes:

  • Six elementary schools, grades pre-K through 4: Burnley-Moran, Greenbrier, Jackson-Via, Johnson, Summit, and Trailblazer
  • Walker Upper Elementary School (Grades 5-6) and Buford Middle School (Grades 7-8) 
  • Charlottesville High School (Grades 9-12)
  • Three alternative learning academies: New Pathways (Grades 7-8); Lugo-McGinness and Knight School (Grades 9-12)
  • Charlottesville Area Technical Education Center (CATEC) (Grades 9-12)
  • Hospital Education program for patients of UVA Children’s Hospital.  

We are currently embarking on a redesign of Buford Middle School which will support a divisionwide school reconfiguration plan:

  • Buford (to be named Charlottesville Middle School) will serve 6-8th grade; 
  • 5th graders will stay at their elementary schools
  • Walker will become a designated early education center to better serve our preschoolers.
